The middle years

In 1957 Eugene joined the army as a Royal signal man, during this time he was stationed in Belin Germany, Whilst Jean and thier dughter Tina moved to Reading. Eugene came back from Germany and proposed to her, they later married on christmas eve 1960. He then went back to Germany where he heard the sad news that his beloved grandmother Mary had passed away, he vowed never to retun to Ireland again. Eugene left the army in 1963 and became a lorry driver for alf meads and then BRS he went on to become a landscape gardener which is a job he loved. In December 1963 Jean gave birth to their second daughter Susan, by 1966 their family was complete by the arrivial of their son Sean. In the early 70s he was reunited with his beloved brothers and sisters this was a very happy time in his life. By the late 70s he became a grandfather for the first time, by the time he passed he was a grandfather to 6 and a great grandfather to 4. Being a grandfather was his proudest time as he always said " you are not a good parent until you are a grandparent".
